AMBRIDGE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Ambridge Public Works Department is responsible for snow and ice removal, storm sewer maintenance, sign rehabilitation, traffic markings, upkeep of public buildings, facilities, parks, and street maintenance within the Borough.

Our Public Works activities are cared for by a staff of four full-time employees. The Public Works Department works very hard year-round to make certain that the physical comforts of the Borough’s residents are met.

As a contracted subdivision of the public works department, trash collection and recycling is a provided Borough service. Trash pick-up is on Mondays with the following exceptions: Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day. During these weeks, pick-up will be postponed one day. Learn more.

Street-sweeping is conducted from April through the end of September and into the first week of October on posted streets. A special collection to recycle Christmas Trees is provided at no charge from Christmas through the first week of February of each year. Learn more.

To report a complaint about a pothole or call our attention to a matter in the community; please contact the Ambridge Borough Office at 724-266-4070.

Street sweeping will begin on Monday, April 7th, and will take place Monday through Friday, every other week. Please be sure to check the signs on your block to see which day the sweeping will take place on your street. Click here to learn more about street sweeping, ticketing, etc...

PLEASE NOTE: Merchant Street is swept every day on street sweeping weeks!

RESIDENTIAL YARD WASTE COLLECTION

Be Green – Recycle your yard waste too! We collect and recycle leaves, brush, twigs, branches, and weeds. Bundle it or bag it and the Public Works department will pick it up and recycle it. Call the Borough office and schedule a pick-up today. We pick up year-round, weather permitting.

  • Yard waste is grass, leaves, branches, etc...
  • No plastic, dirt or garbage
  • Leaves may be bagged in brown leaf and garden bags only
  • Any branches must be cut up so that they are shorter than 4 feet long and no larger than 4 inches around.
  • We would prefer the yard waste to be in paper bags rather than garbage bags. If you must put them in garbage bags, please leave them on a separate day from trash pick-up and somewhat open for visibility.
  • No bundle should exceed 40 lbs.

Winter in Ambridge

The Borough kindly requests your consideration when parking your vehicles so that our Public Works trucks can make the passes throughout our streets without incident.

  • Please park as close to the curb as you can.
  • Please turn your wheels straight or towards the curb.
  • Please do not leave either your front end or back end of your vehicle sticking out into the street when parked.
  • Please pay attention to the “No Parking This Side” signs. Vehicles parked on the sides that are marked no parking will receive a citation and possibly be towed.
  • Please do not park on yellow lines or close to corners.

We realize parking here in the Borough is at a premium, however, if we all follow these simple (but important) rules, we can get through the winter safely.
